The Missing Piece of the Productivity Puzzle

July 10, 2015

Analysing why, in spite of a good economic outlook for the UK overall, BBC business said that productivity remains an issue.

This is because over 70 percent of British industry is in the services sector. In manufacturing, you can implement a bigger machine to turnout a greater number of items per hour.

Improving service productivity is trickier. However, as stated in the feature, technology can help improve staff productivity, which in the long term means wages can go up and productivity will move to be more in line with the UK’s positive growth (currently 2.9%) and the number of people in work (73.4%).

Nissan in Sunderland, referenced by the BBC, is one of the most productive car manufacturing plants in the world.

ProcessFlows played a very small part in this success story by helping Nissan to electronically and securely store their manufacturing related ‘paperwork’.

Electronic document management makes it easy for Nissan’s staff throughout the entire organisation to access, look-up and collate all documentation from the desktop.

The full BBC feature can be viewed here.
